I was very disapointed in item performance.I expect the warrantee if there was one to be no good so I have written it off as a piece of junk. (More customer reviews)The MS2108 does everything it says it does, but the design could use a bit of polishing.First, the clamp reads AC and DC currents, but there is no way to do it through the probes.The AC current seems accurate, but reading DC current takes some getting used to.The basic issue is that the zero is not stable.Pushing the yellow "select" button sets the reading to zero, but it takes awhile to stabilize.Expect to spend 5 to 15 seconds fiddling with the button before zero stays put.One reason I purchased this model is that the minimum DC current resolution is 10 milliamps.However, the last digit jumps around a bit, illustrating the difference between resolution and accuracy.

To be fair, most DC clamp meters offer only .1 amp resolution and this might be why.Virtually all of them are based on linear hall effect ICs, and it is apparent that the signal level associated with tens of milliamps is low and noisy.AC current readings are always credible, but I don't trust the DC readings at low current without flipping the direction of the wire and comparing the plus and minus readings.At high currents the DC stability seems as good as for AC.

There is one oddity in the selector switch, which I presume saved a switch contact to allow use of a standard switch.There is just one setting for both AC and DC voltage.You have to use the yellow button to toggle between the two.Default is AC.If there was a dedicated setting and just one off position instead of two, life would be easier IMHO.

My meter was ordered from the source.It arrived OK but took almost two weeks by overseas mail.No manual was in the box, and when I tried to download it from the factory web site the link didn't work.An email to customer service resulted in a pdf that I had to print myself.The pagination is set up in publication format, so I had to stack the sheets and staple them in the middle with an oversize stapler to get the page order right.That and trimming to size with a paper cutter resulted in a 52 page manual.I contrast this with the straightforward 8 page manual that recently arrived with an LCR meter.I have yet to learn how to use all of the features associated with the four function buttons. It takes all those pages to explain it.I am impressed that it can test capacitance and measure frequency using either the probes and the clamp.The abilities to hold a reading and measure inrush current are nice too.

The meter is well enough built and fits the hand comfortably.Premium features like a switchable backlight for the LCD and an LED to illuminate the clamp jaws are fun, but I'll rarely use their battery eating capabilities.Altogether I'm pleased with the MS2108, but it does fall slightly short of a totally rock solid professional tool.I can live with that given the reasonable price.

(More customer reviews)I use this meter to give me an initial idea of how well my Solar power system is doing by checking how much DC current is going into and out of the charge controller, inverters and battery bank.I only use the clamp feature and only for DC, so I can't comment on the meter lead jacks or the AC functions.The DC clamp function works fine.The meter has a Zero button that needs to be pushed each time you turn the instrument on, otherwise the display shows around 2~3 Amps with the clamp in open air.I don't have anything to test accuracy, but the numbers I get are consistent with what calculations and other instruments are saying.

It's not a Fluke, but it's worth more than what I paid for it.

(More customer reviews)This instrument is being touted as a portable device equipped with a NiMH 9V rechargeable battery.
In a sense, it is portable... if you don't mind having the meter permanently connected to ac line... for you won't be able to charge the battery.
'Kind of defeats the purpose of portability.
The manufacturer knows about the problem and will try to convince you otherwise by including errata in the Operation Manual, which states: "The battery will be charged when the meter is power-on by using DC adaptor power supply". Don't believe it.
I have checked two new BR2822 and both suffered from the same problem: no battery charge.

If one attempts to operate the meter off-battery juice anyway, then there is another feature lurking behind the twisted bends of the software code:
The instrument shuts down every 5 minutes or so, regardless, whether it is being used or not. Imagine pressing the power button some 12-times an hour WHILE you keep working on your project.

Customer support is non-existent: you won't hear a word either from the local US distributor Kaito Electronics or from polite (mum) MCPCH headquarters in Shanghai.

The case is made of a low-grade, cheaply finished plastic, and it shows.
The back recliner stand flexes easily even upon very modest force exerted on the push-buttons.
Perhaps, to compensate for the excessive flexing of the stand, the included Kelvin leads are stiff, making the work with small components rather awkward.
There is a large infra-red window on the top side of the enclosure despite none of the models having any IR communications capabilities.

If you don't mind the permanent umbilical ac cord or listed idiosyncrasies, the meter does the job: comparison with a new, calibrated Protek Z9218 instrument confirmed accuracy of the BR2822.

There is another look-alike model TH2821A having similar specs to BR2822 but made by Chongzhou Tonghui Electronics, or whoever the true OEM of both meters is.
